Best stock market replay simulators (2026)

Updated · By

A stock market replay simulator plays back recorded market data from a past day so you can practise trading it as if it were live. This roundup, written by the makers of Hindsight Markets, compares replay tools that stock traders look at: what each one replays, how far back it goes and who it suits, from each product’s own site in October 2026.

How we compared them

Everything here comes from each product’s own website, in October 2026. Plans and prices change, so check each site before you choose. We make Hindsight Markets, and we say where the others fit better.

The tools do different jobs. Some replay one chart at a time, some sit inside a broker’s platform, and some replay a whole session with scanners and Level 2. The right one depends on what you trade and what you want to practise.

At a glance

Tool What it replays Best for
Hindsight Markets (ours) The whole US stock market on a past day, from August 2026 forward, with the book, the tape, scanners and news. Small-cap momentum day traders who want to trade a whole morning.
TradingView Bar Replay The bars of the charts you open, several charts in sync; intraday depth by plan. Chart traders in any market who already use TradingView.
thinkorswim OnDemand A past trading period from the last several months, with simulated trades. Schwab clients who want replay inside the platform they trade on.
Webull chart replay One symbol’s quotes on a day you pick from the last month, at 1x to 120x. A quick look back at a recent day on one stock.

The tools, one by one

Hindsight Markets

A whole trading platform on a real past day. Every stock, ETF and warrant listed on a US exchange replays together from the 4:00 a.m. pre-market to after-hours, and you switch symbols at any time on one account. Scanners rerun every minute with only what was known then, news and SEC filings arrive when they were published, Level 2 shows the book exchange by exchange, and your orders fill against that day’s displayed size and queue, under that date’s halt, LULD and short sale rules. The journal takes you back to the moment of any trade.

Keep in mind: the days start in August 2026, so the library is young; it is US stocks only; and it replays one day at a time by hand, so it is not a backtester for years of data. More on the stock replay simulator page.

The scanner at 10:40 ET on 2026-09-16: the low-float gainers scan led by RETO up 409% and MEDS up 240%, with float and volume, under the MEDS chart and beside its Level 2 and time and sales.

TradingView Bar Replay

A replay built into TradingView’s charts: pick a point and play the bars forward, several charts in sync. How far back one-minute data goes depends on the plan, from 6 months on Essential to all stored history on Premium and up. Best for: chart traders who already live in TradingView. See market replay compared with bar replay.

thinkorswim OnDemand

Part of Schwab’s thinkorswim platform: replay any trading period from the last several months and place simulated trades on that data. Best for: Schwab clients who want to practise in the platform they trade with.

Webull chart replay

A replay of one symbol’s quotes on a day from the last month, inside the Webull app, at 1x to 120x. Best for: a quick look back at a recent day on one stock.

TradingSim

A browser simulator that replays past sessions with several symbols, scanners and time and sales, Level 2 on its Premium plan, and futures and crypto beside stocks. Best for: day traders who want years of past sessions.

Live paper trading is a different thing

Paper trading accounts let you place simulated orders against today’s live market. thinkorswim paperMoney, Webull paperTrade and moomoo paper trading all describe practice with real-time market data, and they are a good way to learn a broker’s platform before you trade it. They do not replay a past day, so you practise only while the market is open and only on the day you get. A replay gives you the morning a stock actually ran, whenever you have time.

MEDS at 10:48 ET on 2026-09-16, halted on a LULD pause: time and sales shows no prints, Level 2 shows the resting depth still streaming, beside the one-minute chart.

The honest limits

Every replay simulator simulates your fills, and none can tell you exactly what the same order would have done with real money. In Hindsight Markets, hidden liquidity never fills you, and your own order does not move the market after it fills. Off-exchange trades fill a resting limit only during regular hours, and only when they print through its price, not at it. The full list is on the disclaimer page. The glossary explains Level 2, time and sales and slippage.

Common questions

What is the best market replay simulator?
It depends on what you trade. For small-cap stock day trading on a whole market day, Hindsight Markets. For charts in any market, TradingView Bar Replay. For Schwab clients, thinkorswim OnDemand. For a quick look back at one stock, Webull’s chart replay. For years of stock sessions plus futures, TradingSim.
Is there a free stock market replay simulator?
Some tools have free ways in: thinkorswim OnDemand and Webull’s chart replay come inside those brokers’ platforms, and TradingSim has a 7-day free trial. Plans change, so check each site for the current terms.
What is the difference between market replay and paper trading?
Paper trading places simulated orders against today’s live market. A market replay plays back a past day, so you can practise at night or on weekends and take the same morning again.
How far back do replay simulators go?
It varies widely: from the last month on Webull’s chart replay and the last several months on thinkorswim OnDemand, to two to five years on TradingSim and all stored minute history on TradingView’s Premium plan and up. Hindsight Markets opens every trading day from August 2026 forward.
Can you replay Level 2 in a simulator?
Yes, in some. Hindsight Markets replays the full book exchange by exchange on every day it has, and TradingSim shows Level 2 by venue on its Premium plan. In TradingView, the quotes and the trading panel show real-time data during a replay.
Does Interactive Brokers have market replay?
Interactive Brokers’ own pages say a chart can be played back candle by candle in classic TWS charts, though not in TWS Advanced Charts or IBKR Desktop, and its paper trading account fills simulated orders on real-time quotes. For a replay of the whole US stock market with the book and the tape, Hindsight Markets is one option.
